Mark 1:1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’”
As we prepare for our celebration of Holy Week and Easter we are reminded that Jesus's disciples had their work to do to get ready for Jesus in his "Mighty Acts of Salvation."Among them was to get a donkey. Like everything else about him, he had only to pass the message "The Lord needs it." and it was done. A few years ago we were getting our palm branches ready for Palm Sunday when Jake pulls up in the Church yard with a real live donkey! You can imagine the excitement for kids and adults alike.
You may ask, "Was it necessary?" And I will tell you it was Jake's way of teaching a lesson to the kids. If the Lord needs a donkey or a disciple we will respond. We're his disciples. If we are as obedient as Jake then people will hear about Jesus and come.
We pray for Julie as she grieves the death of her daughter.
Amen.
